the Endowment Fund
OUR MISSION
The Casa de Amigos Endowment Foundation was organized in 2003 for the exclusive benefit of Casa de Amigos of Midland, Texas, Inc. The foundation seeks to build endowment funds that will provide support into the future for agency services of Casa de Amigos, a local 501(c)(3) non-profit community service organization whose mission is "to improve the quality of life throughout the community by helping people help themselves."
NEED
Demand for agency services at all levels is high and the population which Casa de Amigos serves continues to grow. Local United Way of Midland assistance is not expected to increase and may actually decrease over time. Foundation support has most likely hit its peak as a percentage of the total budget, yet in order to keep services at least at the present level, more funding must be secured.
ENDOWMENT FUNDS ESTABLISHED TO DATE
The Mary Wynn Winkle Casa de Amigos Endowment Fund was established in 1986 with a gift of $70,000 from Mary and her father Turner Wynn, and was placed under the management of the Permian Basin Area Foundation (formerly Midland Community Trust). The fund has since more than doubled. Casa de Amigos receives approximately $8,000 annually from the interest on that fund, which is used for direct client services only in health, dental, or social service assistance.
The Casa de Amigos Endowment Fund was established in 1996 with a 100,000-dollar grant from the Davidson Family Charitable Foundation. The money is invested with American Funds through two funds: Endowments, Inc., and Bond Portfolio for Endowments, Inc. The funds are overseen by an investment committee of the Casa de Amigos Endowment Foundation board of directors. The combined current balance of these two funds is now over $1 million.
PRESENT READINESS
The agency's board of directors approved the establishment of a planned giving program and board leadership is eager to develop long-term financial security for Casa de Amigos. Investment guidelines have been established and the endowment foundation's board of directors is meeting regularly. The executive director is spending part of her time on planned giving. Casa de Amigos is committed to devoting both its paid staff and volunteer efforts toward achieving the goal of providing additional endowment funds for support of agency programs and services.
