History of Casa de Amigos

1964: Established by St. Mark's Methodist Church.

1965: Ecumenical Board from area churches appointed.

1973: Approved as a United Way member agency.

1978: Present site donated.

1984: Facility remodeled and expanded.

1986: Permanent endowment established by Mary Wynn Hinkle and her father, Turner Wynn.

1989: 25th Anniversary observed!

1990: Major renovation and building expansion; facility renamed the Mabee Eastside Community Center.

1993: INFORMATION AND REFERRAL MIDLAND housed as a program at Casa de Amigos.

1994: Citywide Community Services and Children's Dental Clinic become programs of Casa de Amigos. AmeriCorps members began service through Mental Health Association in Texas contract.

1996: Second major endowment gift contributed by Davidson Family Charitable Trust.

2000: AmeriCorps grant from the Texas Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service awarded.

2002: 2-1-1 initiated as Area Information Center (AIC) with Texas I&R Network (TIRN). [NOTE: Program transferred to Permain Basin Workforce Development Board in 2007.]

2003: Casa de Amigos Endowment Foundation formed.

2007: Collaboration with Midland College and Community National Bank initiated to provide Savings for Independence program.

2008: Still working to improve the qualtiy of life throughout the community!
