Education

Casa de Amigos' education program serves the informal educational needs of children and adults. Programs stress developing self-esteem, confidence, and competence in participants of all ages.

SERVICE AREAS

  • FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION – Sewing & Crafts, Cooking & Budgeting, Nutrition & Exercise, Life Skills & Mentoring, Parenting & Child Care
  • GENERAL EDUCATION EVELOPMENT (GED) Study – Teachers paid by Midland College Adult Basic Education Department.
  • ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL) Classes – Teachers paid by Midland College Adult Basic Education Department.
  • CITIZENSHIP CLASSES
  • MIDLAND NEED TO READ SITE
  • INFORMAL ADULT EDUCATION
  • COMPUTER LAB
  • VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE (VITA) Sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service

Who is eligible?
Under-educated youth and adults of all ethnic backgrounds.

Hours
8:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Monday through Thursday, as scheduled.

Clients served
Nearly 1500 individuals served each year.

Service Provided
Nearly 40,000 units of service annually (defined as one person participating in one activity on one day).

Funding
United Way of Midland, Foundations and Grants, Individuals, Businesses, Churches and Special Events; clients pay small program fees for incidental expenses.

Staffing
Director of Education, Education Assistant, Family Life Education Coordinator, Child Care Providers, Midland College Adult Basic Education (ABE) Instructors, Librarian, Arts Instructors and Literacy Tutors

Volunteers
Participate in all service areas; service activity descriptions available.
