COVID-19 Response: Update 03-27-2020

It is Friday again!  We have come to the point that we need to buckle down and stay home.    My hope and prayer is that we continue to do everything we can to eliminate any spread.

We are attempting to keep everyone updated through Facebook and our website.

Feel free to call us at 432-682-9701.  If it goes to voice mail, please leave a message.  It may not be immediately, but someone will call you back.  You can also reach us via our website.  We have a “Contact” page for general questions and we have an abbreviated Program Application on our “Home” page and our “COVID-19 Response” page.  If you have a program need, this is a great place to submit your need.

Casa de Amigos will be closed to the public until further notice.  Casa de Amigos has suspended the following classes and services until further notice:

• GED (morning and evening)

• ESL (morning and evening

• Citizenship Classes

• After-School Tutoring

• Thursday Medical Clinic

• Medical Screenings & Education (Blood Pressure, Diabetes group and testing, etc.)

• Citywide Homemaker Services

• On Campus Senior Program

VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) The IRS has extended the filing date to July 15.  We have cancelled the appointments for next week, March 30-April 3, but will be rescheduling all appointments as soon as possible.  We will have extended hours to accommodate each of you.  We are taking this day by day and are in close contact with the IRS.

Current Take 2 clients are being affected by the closure of Midland and Odessa Colleges, however, this will not suspend “Check-In” times and regular meetings. These will continue via face-time, e-mail and/or phone call, depending on the nature of the meeting and the client’s access to computer/smart phone, etc. We will not have orientation until further notice.  Feel free to call if you have any questions.  Please leave a message or send us a contact request through our website.  Our Take 2 Coordinator will get back to you.  We also have a lot of general information on our website about the Take 2 Program under the “Programs” tab.

Emergency Social Services is continuing, however, there are new procedures to insure the health and safety of our clients and staff. An abbreviated program application is on- line.  If you have a Social Service need, please fill out a “Program Application” located on the “Home” page or the “COVID-19 Response” page.   Be patient, but a staff member will get back with you via phone or e-mail.  You can also call us at 432-682-9701 and leave a message with your name, phone number and your need.  These messages are retrieved and a caseworker will call you back.

Adult Education:  We miss you guys but continue to use this time to study!  There is so much progress being made and we do not want anyone to lose ground.  Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.  We will keep you updated about class and testing times.

You may have seen the post earlier about the DeZavala teacher/staff parade, wishing their students well.  There were several students out, as well; waving to the teachers they miss!   We miss our kids, too!  Hang in there and keep up your studies!

We are looking forward to seeing you all soon.  However, try to stay home this weekend, get some rest and practice all those safety precautions that are becoming habit.  Please continue to check Facebook and our website at for updates.

I am grateful to all of our medical personnel, city and county leaders, first responders, churches, MISD, fellow nonprofits and the entire Midland Community for all that is being done to “flatten the curve” of COVID-19.

Stay Healthy!
