MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19

COVID-19 Response: Update 07-06-2020

I hope this update finds you healthy.  Please wear a mask.  It will help and allow us all to see each other again sooner!  We miss everyone!

Feel free to call us at 432-682-9701.  If it goes to voice mail, please leave a message.  It may not be immediately, but someone will call you back.  We are normally answering the phones between 9-4 business days.

You can also reach us via our website.  We have a “Contact” page for general questions and we have an abbreviated Program Application on our “Home” page and our “COVID-19 Response” page.  If you have a program need, this is a great place to submit your need.

Casa de Amigos will continue to be closed to the general public until further notice.  Casa de Amigos has suspended the following classes and services until further notice:

  • Citizenship Classes

  • Thursday Medical Clinic

  • Medical Screenings & Education (Blood Pressure, Diabetes group and testing, etc.)

  • Citywide Homemaker Services

  • On Campus Senior Program

We have made some changes to the following programs:  Please call us at 432-682-9701 for information or check out Facebook if you are interested in any of these programs:

  • Summer Literacy Camp

  • After-School Tutoring

  • GED (morning and evening)

  • ESL (morning and evening)

VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance): WE ARE DOING TAXES.  The IRS has extended the filing date to July 15.  Casa de Amigos has been in close contact with our IRS Stakeholder Partner and has developed a plan to help you file taxes in a safe and healthy way.  Please contact us at 432-682-9701 and we will tell you the process.

Take 2: Current Take 2 clients are being affected by the closure of Midland and Odessa Colleges, however, this will not suspend “Check-In” times and regular meetings. These will continue via face-time, e-mail and/or phone call, depending on the nature of the meeting and the client’s access to computer/smart phone, etc. We have orientation for Take 2 via Zoom.  Feel free to call if you have any questions or send us a contact request through our website.  Our Take 2 Coordinator will get back to you.

We have a lot of general information on our website about the Take 2 Program under the “Programs” tab.  As a note, there are many certification and license career training opportunities through Midland and Odessa College.  We are working closely with the colleges to expand the program offerings, so we encourage you to look at Midland and Odessa College websites for a career training you may be interested in.

Social Services: To insure the health and safety of our clients and staff, social services is being provided a little differently.  An abbreviated program application is on-line on our website or you may call 432-682-9701 to let us know about your need.  We may ask you a couple of general questions, but your need will be communicated to a caseworker and someone will call you back.  Caseworkers have access to a “Casa de Amigos” mobile phone, so the caseworker will call you from a mobile phone with caller ID.  The caseworker will leave you a message if you do not answer.

Adult Education:  We are doing some classes on Zoom!  Call 432-682-9701 or send us a program application for information.

Our plans are fluid and they could change at any moment. Please continue to check Facebook and our website at www.casadeamigosmidland.org for updates.
